Pause a little

Having lived for sometime, both inside and outside of theatre, I truly believe ‘arts imitate life’.

Social media could replay human behaviors over and over again to audience in any part of the world. Each day, there are no shortage of images and voices that demand our attentions. These instantly available real world dramas put our sanity to test. Will our senses be numbed by their ever increase frequency, or overly stimulated like watching blockbuster action movies?

So if artists get inspirations from real world, then there has never been a time when they are nearest to their raw materials. Yet, these materials have been edited, interpreted, framed or even twisted, before reaching the screens of the artists. The world we live in must be examined, dissected, investigated, questioned, debated, thought through to reveal the complexity and context of human conditions that exist in it. This is often (ideally) the process for a theatre practitioner, but also (hopefully) identical journey for a theatre audience.

Dramabox New Play Season 2011 hope to carve out a space and time to enable you to take a pause from the real world. Step in, clear your minds, and find a world that is true to you.

Cheers,
LEE, Shyh Jih
